Excellent
I have had this product 2 weeks. Making a cup of coffee the first few times was trying and I am still struggling to get the milk right for cappuccino as the instructions and not as clear as they could be. The machine itself is easy to use when you have done so a couple of times. Locking the filter baskets into start with proved difficult but now it seems easier. I would prefer more coffee out of each pour especially as my husband only drinks black coffee and says there is not enough in one serving. Overall the product is good but takes time to prepare a cup of coffee.

A serious bit of kit
Looks serious and is a heavy duty machine weighing in at 11kg. Makes great coffee (but this will be dependent on quality and freshness of beans). Examine each part carefully as instructions aren't great and they don't explain how to set up everything eg removing plug from water container.
On using once, metal already scratched to take care when using as it does diminish the overall look.
It's good at what it does - best bit is the bean grinder - but I don't feel it offers good value. It clearly isn't heavy duty enough metal to scratch on first use (and I have used these machines plenty!) and its footprint is BIG.
Nice but not the best imo.

ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!!
I absolutely LOVE this machine it’s so flexible, versatile yet a lovely compact design that doesn’t take to much of my kitchen.
It’s a very powerful machine, although it is a little nosey (to be expected from a great machine though).
Love the fact it makes two mugs at once.
The water tank is quite large and holds 2.8L which is quite good.
The only thing to note is that it drips a bit from the steam wand and can damage the worktops so make sure to put it inwards or something under it to prevent this.
All in all this machine has exceeded my expectations dramatically!
MAKES THE BEST LATTE I’ve tasted!!

Professional!
The Breville Barista Max looks very professional.
The integrated grinder has 30 different grind settings which works really well.
You can choose between a single and double shot. It takes roughly about 60 seconds to heat up and comes with a nice sized 2.8 litre water tank hidden at the back.
I use this mainly for cappuccino's and flat whites. The cappuccino always comes out perfect thanks to the powerful steam wand!
I highly recommend to use fresh roasted coffee beans as it really does make all the difference with taste and texture. Also, is to feel the bottom of the milk jug, if it doesnt feel hot to touch it isnt ready yet.
The setup of the machine was quick and easy to do. It's also very sturdy so it wont move about on the countertop.

Simply the best
The Brevvile barista espresso coffee machine is amazing I love to wake up to the smell of freshly ground coffee, it really gives you the whole coffee shop experience.
I have always used a small pod machine but decided it was time for a machine that ground the fresh beans and I can say that this is a coffee lovers dream... everyone that visits me is very impressed with it and it sets my kitchen off beautifully...it has all the functions of a barista espresso machine that you would find in a coffee shop and I also use the milk frother for hot chocolate which is delicious...
I am really pleased with this machine and would definitely recommend it.

Breville Barista Max won't grind beans
We have been given this coffee machine as a gift. It makes a super mug of coffee using preground coffee, but we have now purchased some beans and it simply won't grind. We have tried all the advice in the troubleshooting part of the manual to no avail. All the info online is for a machine that is well used and clogged and not a new machine. The conical burr and beans go round continually when the group handle is depressed but the coffee just won't feed down into the group handle. We are waiting feedback from Breville. Unfortunately we don't have a receipt as it was a gift.

Simple to use and makes a great cup of coffee.
I have been using this machine for nearly 2 weeks now on a daily basis and am extremely happy with it.
Upon delivery of the Barista Max I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to set up, once removed from the box it only needed the water box and bean hopper filling and off you go. The design is sleek and contemporary which would look good in any kitchen and does not take up much worktop space.
The hopper is easy to attach to the machine and it is also used to adjust the coarseness of the bean grind, I have set mine around the middle setting (there are 30 settings in total). The water tank is easy to detach from the back of the machine and can be filled with enough water for many cups of coffee, it then just slides down a main guide along the back of the machine and slots into position perfectly.
The coffee is ground via what looks and sounds like an extremely robust Burr grinder, this is done be inserting the porter filter into the grinder head and pushing down until the desired amount of coffee has been achieved, it is then tampered down with the plastic tamper and inserted into the grouphead which is quite a tight fit but that needs to be like that as boiling water at a high pressure is being pushed through it. During the coffee extraction process the coffee pours out of the double spouts at steady even pace and once finished leaves a very creamy coffee in the bottom of the cup, this can be a single shot amount or double.
This machine also has a steam wand which is a fantastic addition, not only is it good for heating up and texturing milk but it also acts as a hot water tap. I use the steam wand on the boiling water setting first until it stops automatically which fills my cup 2 thirds then I express a double shot of espresso which gives me the perfect creamy black coffee, my wife on the other hand enjoys a cappuccino which is achieved easily by texting the milk in the milk jug using the steam wand, this machine makes the most perfect texted milk....!!
After use the machine is also easy to clean, just run another shot cycle through the grouphead without the porter filter in place to clean that and give the steam wand a wipe with a damp cloth and run steam or hot water through it for a couple of seconds and all is done. Whilst the machine is switched on the top warms up gently allowing for the pre warming of cups but I find it takes too long and instead use the steam wand to heat up my cups.
The only negatives that I can find on the machine are 2 very minor issues: the first being that when grinding the coffee there is a small amount of grind that bypasses the porter filter and falls onto the drip tray, because of this Breville have built in a little coffee grind bin into the drip tray for this to be swept into. the second issue is the length of time it takes from using the steam wand to being able to express coffee, it is around 15 seconds which doesn't sound like a long time but when you are stood waiting it feels like a long time.
All of the little tools and extra pieces can be stored behind the drip tray which is an excellent design as it Keeps everything together. The drip tray can be taken out and cleaned very easily and has a pop up indicator to tell you when it is nearly full.
All in all this is a great addition to our kitchen.

Starting leaking after 18 months
We brought this on a black Friday deal 18 months ago and it's now leaking from a valve at the top. The warranty has ended so no one can replace it for us. We called Breville and there is nothing they can do, not even send us replacement parts. Local repair shops can't even fix the machine. It's ridiculous! It's not even 2 years old and it is broken and unfixable. It is an expensive coffee machine so we are so disappointed. Reading the reviews - we are not the only people who have had this issue. DO NOT BUY. SAVE YOUR MONEY.
